For Cleanse and Gut*
This recipe is simple to pull together in a few minutes no matter what's in your fridge. It's made with easy to find local ingredients such as pastured eggs and vegetables. We love this recipe because it's protein and nutrient-packed, can feed a crowd, and supports local farmers.
This is a delicious and versatile use for early summer rhubarb, especially if you're on the Clean Cleanse, where you can't have strawberries, the usual companion to rhubarb.
This compote is uniquely spiced and perfect as both a sweet and savory accompaniment. I've used it on waffles, ice cream, chicken and lamb. Don't be afraid to experiment in the kitchen, using what's available at different times of the year can make us come up with some amazing flavor combinations that we might not think to try otherwise.
Summer is in full swing everywhere and that means the kids are out of school, and there are beach adventures, road trips, visitors and celebrations. There are lazy summer mornings as well as jam-packed days. This means you need fuel for all of the above and these are my absolute favorite. Waffles are fun and celebratory, perfect for family brunches, breakfast for dinner, unique desserts or you can even freeze them to use as needed for snacks on the go. They only require a waffle iron (available in many different sizes and prices, I've seen them for as little as 20 dollars), and they hold a variety of toppings OR you can put the toppings right inside the waffles as we've done here.

I’m loving two things these days: early morning workouts and a super quick post workout breakfast shake. Inspired by an Animal Collective song “Purple Bottle“, (it's nearly impossible to stay still when you hear it) and my favorite shake, I’ve put them together and created the "Purple Mason Jar", since I tend to drink my shakes out of mason jars. It’s as high-energy as the song, both in taste and the ingredients. This shake makes sure you get a large dose of antioxidants, good fats, plant-based protein, and an extra kick of greens. The tahini adds a great flavor and slows down the sugar release from the blueberries. Although berries in general are much lower in sugar and high in beneficial fiber which is perfect for all of our programs.
You'll have one word for this summery treat: YUM. Loved by kids and grownups alike, this is a decadent tasting yet incredibly nutritious meal that works anytime of the day or night. A great way to energize your morning, kickstart your lunch-on-the-go, or makes the perfect cleansing dinner. Switch the blackberries for raspberries or peaches or blueberries for an equally yummy blend, blend it up and go have a blast!
As I've embarked on this gluten free journey, from time to time I miss good old fashioned baked goods. Many gluten free options you find in the stores are filled with tons of ingredients, fillers, and sugar, so I've been experimenting on my own. I've had more than a few failed attempts, learning the hard way that anything you bake with garbanzo bean flour will taste like falafel. I've also had some pleasant surprises, and this recipe for a savory muffin takes the (gluten-free) cake. It's definitely become a staple in my kitchen!
