Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream – it’s a classic dessert that’s both rich and refreshing. Unfortunately, it also typically contains excessive amounts of sugar and dairy that can both cause breakouts, bloating, and leave you feeling sluggish. We’ve taken the classic flavor combination to create this good-for-you alternative chocolate mint smoothie, perfect for cleansing. You’ll have a hard time believing it’s a healthy breakfast.

The Power of Cacao

Ancient Greeks considered cacao a drink worthy of the gods, which is where its name originates. The cocoa tree – Theobroma Cacao – comes from the Greek words "theo", meaning god, and "broma", meaning drink. Chocolate is usually categorized as a treat, but as ancient Greeks knew, cacao (the raw, unsweetened version) is also a true superfood. Cacao powder and nibs contain more than 300 phytonutrients. Raw cacao contains more than twenty times the antioxidant content of blueberries, one of the densest plant sources available. Adding dairy to chocolate (the process of making candies and chocolate bars) has the ability to block the absorption of the phytonutrients in cacao – one more reason to try this dairy-free version!

The Perfect Start to Your Day

Not only does our protein powder add a delicious, sweet chocolate flavor, but the ingredients are the best quality we can source. Our protein powder adds many nutrients like vitamin C, folate, fiber, and B vitamins to name a few. Starting your day with a shake will also help rehydrate you after water loss as you sleep and helps ease your digestive system into the day. Brown rice protein, the kind we use in our powder, has been shown to lower cholesterol, improve muscle mass, and help maintain a healthy weight. It’s been shown to be as effective as whey protein in these areas. We also stay away from artificial sweeteners and filler ingredients that can cause inflammation and other issues in the body.

Mint for Energy

While caffeine might give you a nice boost upon waking, it often leads to a crash later in the day, and can even lead to adrenal fatigue if it’s overused. The flavor and smell of mint have been shown to increase energy, naturally. If you’re looking for a boost of energy in the morning without the crash later you can try mint tea, aromatherapy, and this shake are all great alternatives.
