Fall is a season filled with holiday-inspired treats like rich pumpkin bars and spiced gingerbread cookies. We love taking classic dishes and turning them into healthy recipes that will satisfy cravings. This smoothie takes all of the flavors we love about gingerbread cookies and turns them into a nutritious smoothie you can have whenever you want!

An apple a day

Honeycrisp apples are the ultimate chilly weather fruit. They have a natural sweetness that gives this smoothie a dessert-like taste. They make the perfect sweet base for spices like cinnamon and ginger. One medium apple, like the recipe calls for, has five grams of gut-healthy fiber. Fiber is incredibly important for cleansing the body and keeping ailments like bloating at bay. The pectin found in apples also helps promote the production of saliva, which is incredibly important for breaking down foods (especially carbohydrate-rich foods). Healthy saliva production also helps cleanse the mouth and eliminates bad breath.

Apples are incredibly rich in antioxidants, especially the skin. Our body contains compounds called free radicals, which play a role in premature aging and the development of some diseases. They can also damage cells and DNA. Free radicals can form from normal, everyday activities like Activity, or excessive external factors like pollution. Our bodies naturally produce some antioxidants in order to fight free radicals, but not nearly enough to keep up with modern day stressors. This makes consuming organic, antioxidant-rich food more important than ever.

Ginger benefits

Ginger is the main star of this smoothie, giving it that gingerbread flavor we love. Ginger contains a compound called gingerol, which is known for its anti-inflammatory properties. Ginger also helps promote healthy digestion, lower blood pressure, and increased immunity. Cinnamon is not only rich in antioxidants but is also known for its ability to improve circulation and keep blood sugar stable.
