After the 21-Day Clean Program, some of us may feel best avoiding dairy products, like cow’s milk. Many find dairy difficult to digest, and consuming it can lead to inflammation, acne, and bloating. This hemp milk recipe is creamy, nutty, and full of health benefits, making it one of our favorite choices for a dairy replacement. Finding milk alternatives is accessible in most grocery stores, but this hemp milk recipe is healthy and straightforward to make at home.

Hemp seeds are an excellent source of plant protein, with just three tablespoons measuring in at 10 grams. Whether you are a vegetarian or a meat-eater, sprinkling these seeds over a salad, adding them to a shake, or of course, a hemp milk recipe is a great way to add protein to your meals.

Add hemp for a dose of magnesium

Hemp seeds are high in many vitamins and minerals, in particular magnesium. Magnesium is a mineral with a seemingly endless list of benefits. It helps calm the nervous system and maintain a relaxed state of mind, which assists in better sleep. Magnesium also helps us maintain healthy blood sugar levels, so you’ll be less likely to experience energy crashes during the day. Many people and women, in particular, are low in magnesium and hemp seeds are a great way to supplement.

Hemp milk recipe for GLA

Hemp contains an omega-6 called GLA (short for gamma-linoleic acid), which is very hard to find in food sources. GLA is crucial for a healthy metabolism. If weight loss or fat-burning is one of your goals adding sources of GLA is a good idea. Unlike most Omega-6 fatty acids, GLA also has anti-inflammatory properties. In addition to containing this healthy Omega-6, hemp also has plenty of Omega-3s. Omega-3s are anti-inflammatory, and most of us have diets too rich in Omega 6s and low in Omega-3s. Hemp contains a healthy ratio of the two, so you can sip away without concern. The Omega-3 content also helps the body break down excessive cholesterol in the system, helping to prevent heart disease.

Unsaturated fats for brain health

Unsaturated fats have been linked to reducing the risk of dementia and Alzheimers. Those with diets rich in the omega-3s found in hemp seeds (and DHA supplements) are less likely to experience either disease. In addition to the Omega-3 content in hemp, they also contain an Omega-6 called y-linolenic acid, which has been shown to lower the risk for Alzheimer’s and cardiovascular disease.
