A cool and colorful pitaya bowl is the perfect summer treat! This smoothie bowl may grab some attention because its bright pink -- no wonder pitaya bowls are Instagram-sensations. The best part? They're all-natural -- who knew such beautiful colors could come from nature?
Why Are Pitaya Bowls So Beneficial?
Pitaya AKA dragon fruit is extremely rich in metabolism-boosting antioxidants including vitamin C, which help to neutralize free radicals from our bodies. It is also filled with fiber and magnesium, which can work synergistically to improve digestion.
Why is magnesium so important? It’s essential in supporting a healthy immune system and keeps your blood flow steady, and maintains proper nerve and muscle function. It also regulates blood glucose levels, controls the production of energy and protein in your body, and regulates the efficiency of our bodily functions. When we are magnesium-deficient, we may experience symptoms of stress, insomnia, poor memory, fatigue, and muscle twitching.
The dragon fruit in our pitaya bowl is also full of b vitamins that help the body metabolize fats and proteins. Getting enough B vitamins daily is essential for healthy skin, hair, eyes, and liver. They also help our nervous system function properly. Consuming vitamins from a food source such as a nutrient-rich smoothie bowl is always ideal.
Are Pitaya Bowls Cleanse-Friendly?
While our recipe below contains bananas and strawberries (excluded from the Clean Program), we encourage adding and subtracting ingredients based on your personal tastes and wants. Frozen avocado is a great substitute for bananas while on the cleanse and chia seeds are a protein-packed superfood that can add bulk to this meal-in-a-bowl.
This beautiful bright pink smoothie bowl is not only gorgeous and tasty, it’s extremely nourishing as well. This is the perfect recipe for the upcoming hot months and a great way to cool off. Get creative by adding more colors to this bowl and top this off with your favorite fruits and toppings!
