What is psyllium husk?
We’ve included a special ingredient in this smoothie – psyllium husk. This is a type of fiber made from the plantago ovata plant’s seeds. The type of fiber in psyllium husk absorbs water in your digestive system, helping to promote regularity. It is also a prebiotic, meaning it helps feed healthy gut bacteria. We used Organic India’s Pre & Probiotic Psyllium Fiber in this recipe.
Since psyllium husk works in partnership with water, it’s important to make sure you’re hydrating in addition to taking this supplement. Having it in a liquid-filled smoothie is the perfect way to consume it. Fiber is helpful for maintaining healthy cholesterol levels and keeping digestion regular.
Get your nutrients in
We love starting our day with nutrient-dense smoothies, which is why they are a staple on our 21-Day Program. We like to make sure our smoothies are loaded with fat, nutrient-dense fruits and vegetables, and high-quality plant protein. The combination of fat and protein is what gives smoothies staying power. Unfortunately, not all protein powders are created equal. That’s why we’ve crafted our own at Clean Program. It is full of fiber, vitamins, minerals, and plenty of plant protein.
To add even more plant protein and nutrients, we’ve included hemp seeds and sunflower seed butter. Sunflower seeds have been linked to healthy cholesterol levels and steady blood sugar levels. They are rich in vitamin E and selenium. Hemp seeds are rich in protein and fatty acids. They are also a good source of vitamin E, phosphorus, magnesium, calcium, iron, and zinc.
