Have you ever had a cold brew, only to feel like your nervous system is pumping the brakes, you have the shakes, and wind up with a "cold brew hangover"? Fortunately, we have been seeing a shift to pretty green smoothies, and iced matcha lattes – and we love it. Not only are green drinks gorgeous subjects for Instagram photos, they’re ideal for curbing hunger between meals and giving you a boost of healthy and sustainable energy to stay focused throughout the day. We also love to add a scoop of our Greens superfood powder to our smoothies.
THE PERFECT GREEN MATCHA SMOOTHIE
When it comes to whipping up a green smoothie, there are a few rules for making them delicious and healthy while keeping funky aftertastes at bay. Most importantly, don’t get too crazy with ingredients. A good ratio to follow is 60 percent fruits to 40 percent leafy greens. If your smoothie tastes a bit too bitter or “green” for your liking, use natural, raw sweeteners to balance the flavor. Coconut nectar and pitted dates are fantastic sweeteners, as are mangoes, apples, and pears.
Two of our favorite healthy boosters for green smoothies are hemp seeds and matcha powder. Hemp seeds are a great source of protein and essential fatty acids. These tiny seeds have been shown to reduce the risk of heart disease, soothe symptoms of PMS and menopause, and aid in digestion. Matcha, on the other hand, is a high-quality powdered green tea with its own set of health benefits. In fact, it’s celebrated as one of the most powerful superfoods available today. A single serving of matcha promotes a sense of calmness while improving memory and concentration, making it a terrific alternative to your morning cup of coffee.
Drinking a smoothie boosted with our Greens is an easy way to squeeze in essential minerals, vitamins, and antioxidants without having to sit down and eat a big salad. This special vegan blend of greens, grasses, fruits, and herbs contains probiotics and enzymes to support healthy digestion and chlorella to flush heavy metals from the body. Greens also helps alkalize the body to buffer toxins and keep you feeling healthy.
1 Tbsp. fresh ginger
2 cups baby spinach
1 ½ cups coconut milk
2 Tbsp hemp seeds
2 tsp. matcha powder
2 scoops Greens superfood drink mix
1 tsp. coconut nectar (optional)
Prep the ingredients. Slice the cucumber, halve and seed the lemons, halve and pit the avocado, and peel and chop the ginger. Measure out the spinach, coconut milk, hemp seeds, and matcha powder.
Squeeze the lemon juice into your blender, and then add the remaining ingredients. Add a few ice cubes if you prefer your smoothie cold.
Measure out two scoops of Greens and add to your blender.
Blend ingredients until smooth, adding a splash more coconut milk or water if needed. Drizzle in a teaspoon of coconut nectar for added sweetness, to taste.
To serve, pour the smoothie into two glasses. Enjoy immediately or cover and refrigerate overnight for breakfast on the go.
